As part of our blog, we’re kicking off an employee spotlight series with our Project Manager, Andy Hampsey. NanoSUN has continued to grow and develop significantly over the last year; this has mainly been down to our people. This week, we talk to Andy about his role at NanoSUN and get a look into what Project Management looks like in the world of engineering and hydrogen refuelling.
I Joined the team on 10th January 2022.
I wanted to join a company that was moving forward.
I knew throughout my interview process that I was going to be a part of something important. NanoSUN’s company mission was a big selling point. Knowing what NanoSUN we’re looking to achieve with their Pioneer Mobile Hydrogen Refuelling Station and how it will tackle the issue of CO2 emissions really sold the position to me.
I was also interested in the challenge of the role. With NanoSUN being a growing SME, I knew there was going to be a lot of ‘set up’ work which I could really get stuck into. Another winning factor was that even though the office location was perfect for me, I valued the fact that NanoSUN offer a hybrid home/office working schedule, as it shows their willingness to grow with change.
Working as a Project Manager no 2 days are the same! On any given day I can be running meetings to update Project Plans, talking to 3rd party suppliers, communicating with internal teams and external customers about Project progress, or managing any issues or risks that may arise related to Projects. So, it’s a very varied role which is what I like most about my job!
Working with the wider team, there’s a lot of scope for bringing in your experience and skills from previous roles. Since coming on board I’ve felt very heard; my ideas are appreciated and I’ve been given the opportunity to put my stamp on things, which I think is something that is hard to come by. This has been very rewarding because throughout my past experiences, I’ve just got on with the job without my input actually being valued. That’s simply not the case at NanoSUN, the company really thrives on your abilities and challenges you to develop your talent.
It’s a very friendly team here too. Everyone wants to be here and they want to make what we’re working towards a success. There are regular social events with a genuine interest in everyone being together, celebrating achievements and making everyone feel included.
Flexible working has also been really beneficial! You're trusted to get on with your job, there’s no strict ‘clocking in and clocking out’ regime, as everyone works really hard to make the business a success.
I would say it’s the best company I’ve ever worked for, and I’ve worked for a number of different companies over 30 years.
NanoSUN is an expanding, dynamic and fast paced company, which is something I was really looking for. I believe there are many opportunities for me to grow within the company. There is certainly the potential, scope and ambition for me to push myself, move up and progress if I want to.
I would be a drummer in a world famous rock and roll band!
Fun, interesting, rewarding.
Some people say I look a bit like Keanu Reeves! So, I guess it would have to be him!
Drums. Because I love playing drums! Or maybe crisps. I really love crisps too!
